thank you to all of you who have posted comments it means a lot to know that we have your interest and support. Today we arrived in Santo Domingo de Calzada the walk was reasonably flat with one ginormous (big) hill which seemed to go on forever I think it took the best part of 45 mins to walk up it even the horrid cyclists who normally whizz by, giving us a fright, had to get off and walk (hee hee).
We came across a couple of New Zealanders who were peering into a murky pond which was full of enormous irradascent green frogs speckled in gold I think Nikki was on the verge of kissing one in the hope of getting a more handsome replacement than the slow moving old man she has saddled herself with...
There are some increasingly unusual people on this stretch, we came across a frenchman who is doing his 7th Camino (he walks in tennis shoes) we often see a couple from Quebec who are pushing a 2 seater baby pusher (with one 4 month old baby inside), we have also heard of a south african, whom we have yet to meet, who is doing the walk in bare feet.
Eyes play strange tricks when it comes to distances it is almost as if they have a telephoto lense so as soon as the destination town is seen it seems as if it is very close only to get further and further away as you trudge towards it..like a dream. We have been walking towards a snow capped mountain now for 4 days and we are no closer to it so it seems..
We are now officially 555 k from our final destination of Santiago, unless of course we decide on walking on to Finistera (mmm we shall see).
We keep ourselves amused along the walk by playing word games, listening to music, and on the odd ocassion ¨playing Pooh Sticks¨ over the river.
Last night we had a lovely picnic on the banks of the river which runs through the town, fresh ham, cheese, sausage, tomatoes, cherries, and of course chocolate. As the sun set we watched a fly fisherman and listened to the clacking of the young storks high up on the rocks and on the church steeples.
Well that´s it for now, I am nervous about putting photos on this blogsite as they seem to magically reappear on Facebook...I wonder who that can be?

Well done on making the first week. Take it from an old marathon runner that you broken the mental barrier and you will make it now. You have got your routine and rhythm going, and you will start missing your daily pain and soreness. It's like a drug.
As far as the stealing of your image intellectual property, I will use cyber forensics to track down the perpetrator, and will not rest until I catch them!!
Hi to you both. It is just FANTASTIC reading your ventures and I love the pics. What does Pooh over the river mean? I met with Sheri yesterday and collected the bottle. We are going to share it over dinner at our place on Sat night, so will toast you both. Not much has changed here - rumuors galore of more retrenchments etc etc. Freddie is heading off shortly to climb the stairs with his 25kg on! A good row for me this morning. I miss seeing the blue covered blades in the box! JB xx
Buenos dias Nick and Nikki.
Love reading your comments as you trudge between bars. 20 km a day is but a short stroll. If I could remember the bars between Vianna and Burgos I might be able to suggest a few but alas it is all but a haze. Blame Linda.
The best bits are to come. Walking the Meseta is fabulous. Long distances between towns and------ hot.
Have a great time and have several vino blancos for me.
Keep up the blog (now I have finally managed to crack the code).
Go Hawks.
If Quentin remembers correctly, your last posting is where he contracted his severe case of food poisoning. In case you too got hit by it, let us know and we'll be able to recommend a very nice B&B run by a Dutch guy in your next town (Belorado I believe).
Anyway, although you see snow capped mountains, that doesn't mean to say you need to wear Edelweiss in your hat!
XXX Q&A XXX
Clearly Nikki decided not the kiss the pretty little green frog with the gold spots, hoping for the handsome prince to emerge. No she stuck with the old toad and the picture of Nick in the blue shirt shows an acute case of "pash rash" under the nose and around the chops.
With 555kms to go i somehow think that you are doing more than playing pooh sticks at the river crossings.
Great reading and very envious of your experience so keep the news flowing.

Such an exciting time for you both - most envious of the experience although a little unsure if I could actually commit to walking the distance you are anticipating. Keep it up.
Yes, I want to know also - what does Pooh over the river mean?
Farewelled Rob on Thursday and welcomed back Binod to Dubai!!
Sheri
i remember the eyes playing tricks thing when descending kilimanjaro after having just ascended it. i think we walked that day for 12 hours, with very few, short breaks. i was so totally knackered and just wanted to reach camp, and it seemed an eternity away.
of course in your case, it could just be the hangover??
